Hastenteufel
has not restricted himself to only one medium. He works on canvas, does
collages and builds sculptures. As “building material” for his
three-dimensional works he often uses things gathered at each
place of exhibition anew. The thrown-away parts, the litter and the
discarded are his manifesto. He wants to make the place of any
exhibition part of his art, so that the local social and cultural
settings are reflected in his works. The metamorphosis of trash into
art is thus the means of his choice. In this way Hastenteufel recycles
materials, which would not be of any other use: “The
technical-industrial and cultural heritage of a region becomes recycled
and revitalized.” To get access to interesting pieces out of steel,
cardboard or plastic, he occasionally works closely with the local
waste management industry.
Due to the materials used, his
works show an incidental and procedural nature. Hastenteufel’s works
evolve only while being created. An approach planned in advance is not
the way for Hastenteufel’s spontaneous character. He grants himself the
adventure of being surprised by the finished work itself. His raw
material originates from everywhere. The brand names and company logos
are frequently still seen on the finished works of art and sometimes
even become the title of the work. | | |
